New Employee Orientation Programs

Orienting new employees to the university is critical to establishing successful, productive working relationships.

New Employee Orientation Programs facilitated by University HR provides new employees with information to help them succeed in their roles and engage in the campus community.

All officers of administration, classified employees, faculty, and GEs are encouraged to participate in UO New Employee Orientation Programs within the first 90 days of employment.

Employees should coordinate with their supervisor to make sure the orientation date selected fits with their schedule. NEO registration requires authentication with a DuckID and password. New Employee Orientation Programs: Mission, Shared Responsibilities, & Engagement Opportunities

In this monthly session, new employees learn about their responsibilities, UO community standards, and the campus resources and engagement opportunities available to faculty and staff. To fit a more diverse range of schedules, this session is offered on alternating Tuesday mornings or Thursday afternoons each month. Supervisor Orientation

As a supervisor at the University of Oregon, you play a vital leadership role in fostering employee engagement, satisfaction, and effectiveness. This orientation is designed to help you understand what it means to supervise at UO and to build awareness of key information relevant to you and your direct reports. 

Who Should Attend: 

  • New supervisors at the University of Oregon
  • Current employees who have recently begun supervising others
  • Newly hired staff with supervisory responsibilities
  • Staff promoted into a supervisory or managerial role
  • Current staff or faculty supervisors seeking connection and a refresher 

Participants will: 

  • Understand the University’s expectations for supervisory roles and responsibilities
  • Gain insight into UO’s organizational landscape, including key initiatives, policies, and employee groups
  • Learn how to access resources and support to strengthen supervisory skills and effectiveness

This onboarding experience offers opportunities to connect with other new employees, learn about available university resources and support at our resource fair, and join subject experts for information sessions designed to support your success as part of the UO community. Care for Students: Supporting Student Mental Health and Wellbeing 

In strengthening our community of care for students, we invite our UO faculty and staff who find themselves concerned about a student’s mental health and wellbeing and wanting to learn how to more effectively respond and help. While you might not be a mental health professional, there are many ways to be of support to students and demonstrate your care. This presentation provides participants the opportunity to learn how to reach out to students along with what campus resources and support are available for students and UO employees when these situations arise.
